10 DAYS OF VALENTINES- DAY 7: SEQUIN HEART PATCHES DIY

If you are anything like me, than your probably a sucker when it comes to shopping for your kids. I'm one of those mothers who can have a hole outfit picked out for myself , but God forbid I see something cute for my daughter because I will put my stuff down and walk out with children's clothes.

The other night I was flipping through the pages on Zulily drooling over all the adorable clothes they have for the upcoming season. Then I stumbled upon a pair of  heart leggings which I thought were perfect for valentines day. Until I saw their sales price! So, inspiration kicked in and I was determined to recreate the Zulily leggings with a sequined signature of my own. This is how I did it!

Supplies needed; leggings or pants,pen, 1 piece of card stock paper,scissors, Two pieces of pink felt, pink embroidery floss, large needle, two pins, pink sequins.

                                                     Getting Started

1. Mark your pants or leggings at the knees with a pen. 2. Create a heart template out of the card stock paper,I cut out two different hearts to see which one I liked better. 3. Trace and cut out your heart template onto the pink felt(I chose the rounder heart). 4. Pin the felt hearts over the marked area on your garment.

                                                       Starting to Sew

1. You will be doing a basting stitch from underneath the fabric back up to the top. 2. Attach the sequins to the garment as you sew. Bring the needle up from beneath the stitch and connect the sequin. 3. Push down the sequin through the thread and keep going with the pattern until you have sewn the heart all around. 4. You have officially mastered the art of patching and sewing sequins all in one!! 

   I made these sequin heart patches with my daughter in mind, but I also think they would look great on some of my clothes. I might have to come back and let you guys know how it goes. Would you add these on some of your clothes? How would you wear it?

My family and I are huge fans of PBS Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood and all that it has to offer. Our daughter Serenity has watched every episode and memorized most of the songs. She ultimately asks to replay this show about 20 times a day and runs around singing the potty song nonstop, its hilarious! In our home we strictly limit the amount of television Serenity can watch. So whenever she is allowed to spend some TV time Daniel Tiger is usually one of her top picks. Daniel Tiger has worked wonders on our little one, breaking down essential life lessons that us parents try to teach and reinforce on a daily basis. We are very excited for Neighbor Day, it will be a fun day filled with songs,important lessons and activities! If your trying to teach your children that its nice to do good things for others,what a better way to reinforce this important life lesson than this Labor Day Monday with Daniel Tiger and friends. Recycled Fun!

    I have been collecting paper towel and toilet paper tubes for the past two weeks, rambling over what I could possibly create. Suddenly Pintrest inspiration kicks in!! Why not create a super fun recycled/ bidazzled fairy tale castle for little Serenity? Well yes indeed we did! Yesterday Little Renity and I spent all after noon creating what she thought was the most amazing thing she had ever made. 

First we made a trip to the commissary and asked the nice employees for the biggest piece of cardboard they had. Once our big cardboard mission was accomplished we used it as our base for the castle. Little Renity and I painted away like true artist! I have to say it was so much fun!

Once our base and our hands were completely covered with paint we let the base dry for about an hour.

While the base dried we moved on to the castle towers and walls.  We decided we were going to have a hot pink girly castle! This part was a bit of a challenge. Lets just say Renity was in need of a bath after this! 

  

After everything was dry we hot glued the cardboard towers and walls to the base of the castle. Then for some character we glued flags made out of toothpicks and scraps of cloth to the top of our towers. Transforming it into our fairy tale masterpiece! Pretty cool huh? Not only was this an awesome craft for kids it was also a chance for little Renity to create something she will enjoy for hours without braking the bank!
